Don’t overthink when transplanting or transitioning plants from soil to a semi-hydroponic medium. Roots alone will not tell you if the plant will have a good chance of surviving a semihydro setup, it is important to know which plant will do well and those that don’t.

Philodendrons, hoyas and pothos will do well in a LECA Kratky semi-hydroponics setup. With or without roots. But if you decide to keep the roots there’s a good chance that they will rot, especially if they are from soil. If a plant can be propagated from cuttings then it will do well in semihydro when roots are removed.

The plant featured here is an Alocasia. They don’t like their roots removed. So when transitioning them to LECA keep the healthy roots and wash them thoroughly. You cant propagate Alocasias from cuttings, only from corms and offshoots. It makes sense not to remove their roots, I learned this the hard way.

I hope you learned something from my experience and if you have questions feel free to drop them in the comments below or DM me. I’m always here to help.
