Now that temperatures are cooling down, it is time to refresh my in-bed worm composters. I've been in bed vermicomposting for 2 1/2 years. I use them for composting all of my kitchen scraps - it is so convenient. The worms make the castings where they are needed, right in the beds.
Here's what I did to refresh them after the long hot summer:
• Cleaned out the bins - spread the remaining castings and compost around my beds.
• Shredded cardboard boxes
• Added shredded cardboard to the hole
• Wet it down
• Added some worms - these beds had worms previously, so I only added a few - I split one bag from @Arizona Worm Farm between 4 beds
• Added food scraps
• Topped with brown (something that used to be a tree) and covered (I use a ceramic tile)
