Another reason why I should stick to my plant care routine at midnight instead of daylight hours: I can dance in peace ????
These Hoyas were all grown from cuttings propagated in perlite and sphagnum moss. Both mediums were great at growing roots, but removing moss from the roots took 10000x longer than the perlite so never again ????????
I chose LECA as the permanent medium for growing these Hoyas over soil because I didn’t feel like managing watering for 10 new plants ????. By growing these in LECA, I just need to maintain a small reservoir of nutrient water in the outer cups and the clay balls will handle the rest. So far, the transfer to LECA has been fine with little to no shock to the plants! Every two weeks or so, I’ll be flushing the LECA by running it under a tap to clear out any salt/mineral deposits.
If you’re curious about starting plants in LECA, I recommend using propagated cuttings first before trying to transition soil plants to LECA directly. I find there’s a higher chance of success this way because the roots in propagated cuttings are used to constant moisture.
