Today, I am going to do a review on Scepterd' isle tree rose from David Austin! In my opinion, this is a rose that really not suitable to grow as a tree rose in the hot and humid South. Reason? Because it is such a leggy rose!! Omg, I want to grow a tree rose, not a whipping tree rose especially when it has thorns.

I put 2 of them at the entrance of my front door. Instead of fill up the tree with blooms (since Scepterd' isle is supposed to be a floriferous rose), it just growing like a mad rose whipping everyone passing by the front entrance with its canes. The bloom is spectacular in spring and fall coz I really love the softest pink, delicate and globular bloom. But it is really small blooms in the summer like 1.5 to 2 inches, fade into white and shatter after 2 days under the heat!! So, I have an ugly willow rose tree for most of the summer.

If it is grow as a shrub or even climbing rose, I think I will be much tolerate of its leggy growth since I can train them on the obelisk. But, it is a tree rose! I can't really support the leggy canes and the only way to fix this problem is to prune it down after each flush, which means more maintenance to me. It has medium strength myrrh fragrance so, not something I am especially fond at.

Oh well, thanks for listening me venting of this rose. LOL!! It is still a really pretty one but if you are in the warm climate area, I will advise NOT to grow it as tree rose based on my experience. Hope it helps!!
